Each morning, open the app and rate energy, joint comfort, and sleep on a 1 to 5 scale. If you are in a flare, flag it. FlexAthlete returns a readiness score and a band: ready, modify, or recovery.
The score weights joint comfort above energy and sleep. It is capped during a flare, for a few days after a flare, and after three consecutive low days, when it forces a recovery day. This is by design, so the app never pushes you toward injury.
Pick a goal (5K, 10K, or half marathon) to generate a week-by-week plan. The conservative 20-week half is the gentlest option. Strength work runs in Foundation, Build, and Maintain phases with joint-safe isometric and eccentric exercises.
Cadence uses your iPhone motion sensors. Make sure FlexAthlete has Motion & Fitness access in Settings > Privacy & Security > Motion & Fitness. Carry or strap the phone to your body for accurate step detection.
Distance uses GPS while a run is active. Allow location access in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > FlexAthlete, and give GPS a moment to acquire a signal outdoors before starting.
Check that your phone is not on silent and the volume is up. The metronome plays a short system tick on each beat at your target cadence.
