The short version: Almost everything in FlexAthlete stays on your device. There are no accounts, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. The one time information leaves your device is when you use the premium AI coach chat, described below.
Everything you enter, your morning check-ins, readiness scores, training plan, strength phase, flare history, profile, and saved runs, is stored locally on your iPhone or iPad. Apart from the AI coach chat described below, it is not transmitted to us or to anyone else. If you delete the app, this on-device data is removed with it.
The premium AI coach answers your questions using Claude, an AI model provided by Anthropic. This is the only feature that sends your information off the device, and only when you send a message in the coach chat.
When you send a coach message, the app transmits the following to our backend (a Supabase Edge Function), which forwards it to Anthropic to generate the reply:
• The message you type and your recent messages in that conversation.
• Training context to ground the answer: your readiness score and band, whether a flare is active and which areas, days since your last flare, your plan goal and today's session, your strength phase, recent run count and last cadence, and the optional profile details you have entered (such as your self-described hypermobility status, unstable joints, related conditions, and your goal).
We do not send your name, email, account, or a device identifier, because the app has no accounts. Our backend does not store your messages; it passes the request to Anthropic and returns the reply. Anthropic processes the request to generate the response and may retain inputs for a limited period for safety and abuse monitoring under its policies, after which they are deleted. Your coach conversation is not used for advertising, is not sold, and is not used to track you. The free daily insight is generated on your device and is not sent anywhere.
Exercise screens can show demonstration videos hosted on YouTube, played through YouTube's privacy-enhanced ("no-cookie") embedded player. When you open a demo, YouTube (Google) may receive your IP address and device information and may collect data under its own policies in order to deliver the video. We do not control that processing. See Google's Privacy Policy.
When you start a run, FlexAthlete uses your device location (GPS) to measure distance and pace. Location is only read while a run is active. It is used on-device to calculate your run metrics and is not sent off the device or shared with anyone.
During a run, FlexAthlete reads step cadence from your device motion sensors so it can coach you toward a joint-friendly cadence. This data is processed on-device in real time and is not transmitted or stored remotely.
If you allow notifications, FlexAthlete schedules a local morning reminder on your device. No notification content is sent through our servers, because there are none involved.
Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. We never see your payment details. Apple processes your purchase and renewal; please review Apple's Privacy Policy for how Apple handles that information.
FlexAthlete does not include analytics SDKs, advertising, or third-party trackers. We do not build a profile of you and we do not sell or share your personal data. The only information that leaves your device is the AI coach chat data described above, used solely to answer your question, and the request made by YouTube's player when you open a demo video.
FlexAthlete is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
We may update this policy from time to time. If we change how data is handled, we will update this page and describe the change.
